Bare vs. Effective Fixed Point Action in Asymptotic Safety: The Reconstruction Problem∗

چکیده
We propose a method for the (re)-construction of a regularized functional integral, well defined in the ultraviolet limit, from a solution of the functional renormalization group equation of the effective average action. The functional integral is required to reproduce this solution. The method is of particular interest for asymptotically safe theories. The bare action for the EinsteinHilbert truncation of Quantum Einstein Gravity (QEG) is computed and its flow is analyzed. As a second example conformally reduced gravity is explored. Various conceptual issues related to the reconstruction problem are discussed.

Bare Action and Regularized Functional Integral of Asymptotically Safe Quantum Gravity
Investigations of Quantum Einstein Gravity (QEG) based upon the effective average action employ a flow equation which does not contain any ultraviolet (UV) regulator. Its renormalization group trajectories emanating from a non-Gaussian fixed point define asymptotically safe quantum field theories. A priori these theories are, somewhat unusually, given in terms of their effective rather than bar...
متن کاملOn the Possibility of Quantum Gravity Effects at Astrophysical Scales∗
By now it appears increasingly likely that Quantum Einstein Gravity (QEG), the quantum field theory of gravity whose underlying degrees of freedom are those of the spacetime metric, can be defined nonperturbatively as a fundamental, “asymptotically safe” theory 1-17. By construction, its bare action is given by a non–Gaussian renormalization group (RG) fixed point. In the framework of the “effe...

We study the non-perturbative renormalization group flow of higher-derivative gravity employing functional renormalization group techniques. The non-perturbative contributions to the β-functions shift the known perturbative ultraviolet fixed point into a non-trivial fixed point with three UV-attractive and one UV-repulsive eigendirections, consistent with the asymptotic safety conjecture of gra...
متن کامل$G$-asymptotic contractions in metric spaces with a graph and fixed point results
In this paper, we discuss the existence and uniqueness of fixed points for $G$-asymptotic contractions in metric spaces endowed with a graph. The result given here is a new version of Kirk's fixed point theorem for asymptotic contractions in metric spaces endowed with a graph. The given result here is a generalization of fixed point theorem for asymptotic contraction from metric s paces to metr...
متن کاملThe unitary conformal field theory behind 2D Asymptotic Safety
Being interested in the compatibility of Asymptotic Safety with Hilbert space positivity (unitarity), we consider a local truncation of the functional RG flow which describes quantum gravity in d > 2 dimensions and construct its limit of exactly two dimensions. We find that in this limit the flow displays a nontrivial fixed point whose effective average action is a non-local functional of the m...
